Constant growth is about staying open minded about what you are capable of accomplishing. When you say things like: “that is not my job” you may feel like you are escaping the blame for something that has been neglected… In those moments you recognize that something was done below average, and the person complaining to you is looking for someone to take ownership. Your inclination to say: “that is not my job” comes from not wanting the person complaining to think less of you for such an obvious fumble in their service experience. And it might work. The person might conclude it isn’t your problem. I still think you missed an opportunity. Most people are not looking for someone to take the blame more than they are looking for someone to acknowledge their bad experience.
