Motivational Medicine: For Realtors and the Professionals that stand behind them.

When you are a Real Estate agent you have to sometimes be the source of other peoples motivation.
Your clients need and depend on it.
Translated, they depend on you to keep them hopeful when they struggle to maintain hope on their own.
And it is understandable due to the emotional nature of home buying and selling.
However, that in no way means supporting their emotional needs is an easy endeavor.
What it does means: you must have a reliable source you can tap into for staying motivated yourself.
It is a challenge to be someone’s rock.
To be totally in control at all times.
It can be exhausting.
That is why you need to really search and hold onto motivation that is renewable.
Where can you find a lasting source for motivation?

I will be the first to admit…
There may be a layer of dust hiding it.
Your motivation.
That is why it can feel so out of reach at times.
Your obligations make it harder to focus and see it.
But it is there.
It is just that when you move fast, doing your good work for other people…
You stir up some dirt along the path you are busy paving for your clients.
And all the tasks and actions you complete for people create dust.
Think about this “dust” as a leftover result of all the effort you put forth for your clients.
At the end of the day they are so happy, you made it all work out.
You tried to absorb as many of their worries as you could and the dust from transferring those worries collects.
The transaction will one day close.
That is when you address the dust that has collected.
You have to for you and the people you want to serve in the future.
Dust of any kind has to be swept, and often.
That is why we look around for quick fix motivational blurbs to clear things up—call it light dusting.
But it is just stirring the surface, not cleaning it—making it new again.
It is done in a rush sometimes…
Because there is always a “next” client.
And you feel to thankful for the opportunity to stop
But when the dust settles, you are right back where you first began your search for motivation that lasts…
Searching.
Outside.
But that will shortly fade from having any lasting impact.
Because the source isn’t you, it cannot last.
Most people struggle to motivate just themselves, but you have the task of keeping your clients motivated so you have to get to the source…
Real motivation is harvested.
Within.
By taking a self-inventory of what you want and what you need.
What you need to motivate you is inside of you right now or at the heart of the things you have created.
Maybe your child, or your marriage…etcetera.
Just because we go through periods of motivational slumps does not mean we have lost our motivation.
All it means is that the dust has settled and we need to get busy cleaning.
Everything you do requires maintenance.
you need sleep, food, water, baths…
Every aspect of life has to be tended to.
The outlook on your life is no different.
If you let it wander and base it on other people’s lives, it will have less and less to do with our lives.
And it is your story.
What do you want?
When you are gone and people think of you, how do you want to have impacted those people?
If the answer to one of those questions is not attainable with out negatively impacting the other--time for some spring-cleaning.
It is amazing.
When you consciously reaffirm your priorities, motivation is easier to sustain.
When you are not contradicting your own values you have reached the essence of your true self.
With that clarity, motivation will flow freely.
From the source…
You.
