To Grow Or To Stay

The Dilemma

If you work hard and make the sacrifices others are either unwilling or unable to make...
One day you will find yourself having to make an uncomfortable choice as a contractor.
You will eventually reach a crossroads where you have to decide if what you are doing now is the most you will do.
The main constraint at this juncture is that you are at the mercy of physics like the rest of us.
You can only be physically present in a certain number of places in one day before it becomes very obvious you have maxed out your time.
Something big is happening here that many people do not think about.
Most people think that if they chose to grow they are putting a lot on the line.
Sacrificing family time or temporary income to train people to help you grow but that isn't what will change.
If you are at this juncture you have the juggling thing down.
The fact you have a decision to make rather than one that way decided by a lack of business proves my point.
No, something more is going on and the way you think about it will determine how smoothly  this transition period will go.

The big change is that you are becoming an entrepreneur.
Until we hire another body to do what we already do, we have been a freelancer...
A one woman(man) show.
All that changes in the moment you decide your brand can be bigger.
Before you hire the team to help you grow and before you announce anything...
You decide.
And that decision changes everything.

How you think about risk changes.
How you think about control...
Everything.

I am sorry if this doesn't sound like a pep talk.
I can assure you that is what I intend it to be.
Maybe if you consider that the alternatives to facing these challenges it will feel like a pep talk..

If you chose to stay when given the chance to grow you risk;
Never feeling truly challenged again.
Never feeling the rush of surpassing another impossible goal.
Never seeing an additional comma in the bank because you bet on yourself.
Never knowing how far you can take this thing you built.

It's not for everyone to expand... but since when was the goal to be like everyone?
