Are you impressive...?
Having an impact and being
impressive are not always the same.
An impact means you have had
an effect.
Impressive means you have
evoked the admiration of someone else.
The two get confused when we
think what impresses one person is the same for all people.
Lets use a luxury car as an example...
Lets use a luxury car as an example...
Some people will be initially
impressed if you show up in a new luxury car.
They may think that because you
drive an expensive car that you must be good at your job and they will benefit
from the skills that allowed you to afford this vehicle.
But if you show signs of
lacking the skills that make sense with the story they have told themselves
about you…
The car has led to
disappointment.
Other people may think that you
drive a luxury car to give the illusion that your cars value is equal to your
skill set, and feel they will end up disappointed.
The point—either assumption
can be made about the impact of something you do intentionally to boost your image.
Looking for material anything
to convince someone of your service aptitude is an express ticket to the
bottom.
Do not put your chances of
getting respect and hired into something other than your actions.
It is a game of roulette.
Sometimes it may work and
other times it may backfire.
Just like in Vegas…
The house usually wins, and
the odds are not in your favor.
Ultimately it will be your
treatment of other people that make the most lasting impression.
An impression is something
you should want to leave a persons with after having an individual experience with you.
Surface level impressions
will only get you so far.
Most of the time the things
you can do for your surface image make you eligible to do business, not entitled to do business.
Having a clean running car because a car is required in your line of work means the eligibility to be considered for hire.
Using a car to speak on
your behalf?
You do not need a car to do that.
Drive the car you drive.
Impress people with the
driver.
There is no need draw attention to anything else.
