Everyone needs to hear you say certain things...

Never take it literally when a kind person says: “no need to thank me, it is my job” or "It was my pleasure".
If a person does something thoughtful or something that helps you, acknowledge them.
They should hear your gratitude from time to time.

This includes all of the people in your life.

Your Spouse...
Your leader/boss...
Your co- worker...
Your understanding clients who stick by you…
Your thoughtful neighbor...

Everyone needs to hear out loud that you appreciate his or her efforts.
Especially when that effort is on your behalf.
Even if their effort is a socially accepted duty as a participating member of your family...
Even if it is your co- workers job to support you...

Acknowledge these individuals.

It may be the responsibility of many people to support us over the course of our lives but how many individuals really come through for us?
Consistently, without complaining or getting tired of supporting us….
How many?
Not the majority is the answer I'd be willing to bet.
So acknowledge those who put up and show up for you.
Acknowledge them because they deserve to hear they are appreciated.
Have they not earned it?
Acknowledge them because it is an easy way to pay a compliment and show respect.
Acknowledge them because they are a rarity and important to you.

People willing to go out on a limb for us are an endangered species.
If too much time goes by without your acknowledgement these good people will burn out.
Effort cannot sustain itself without positive reinforcement.
Not forever...

Something about you inspires these people who support you enough to be willing to go the extra mile for you.
Keep giving them reasons why they should continue to support you.
Acknowledge them for their effort or you may find they eventually run out of effort to give.

It does not cost anything to give gratitude.
The true price involved is a decision not to express your gratitude.
When we do that we risk loosing the people in our lives who support us the most.

For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”-Matthew 25:29
