"Teamwork makes the dream work!"

If your reaction to this mantra is:
"Oh great...that's helpful....Considering MY team consists of mostly ME"

You are my target audience for this post.
Even if you have a team...
If you are ultimately the decision maker, you may still find yourself feeling like the fate of your business rests solely on your shoulders.
And it's true...
the final decisions you make are the ones that determine end results.
So the trick is making the decision making process a methodical one.
Even perhaps an uncomfortable and frustrating one...

Let's tell the truth about making the BEST decision:

The process is brutal!
Some of the best products that hit the market start at a much different place than what they look like in the end.

How does a perfect solution or product get to that point?

The answer:
A strict adherence to consulting multiple perspectives.

The best solutions are usually the result of a melding of ideas that developed over time from a group of people who have very little in common.
Draft after draft of carefully considering potential problems and offenses you would NEVER think about on your own.
That's the only way to find a solution that does not isolate any one group of people.
The best solutions are win-win and bringing in the perspectives of all kinds of consumers compounds your chances of reaching a win-win dynamic.

Service suicide is the moment your consumers says to another potential consumer: "she was fantastic working with me, but for YOU... She would be a nightmare to work with...YOU just wouldn't like how she does things."

The bottom line:
If left to only your own devices you can easily become THAT narrow minded person.
"My way or the highway" power negotiating does not sell in this economy of multiple consumer choices.
The only prevention for backing ourselves into a type cast corner is to welcome feedback from people we trust as professionals but do not share many perspectives with.
I understand the impulse of WANTING your perspective on picking the best solution to be the correct one...
But the reality is...
You should be better informed to make your decisions.
A persons perspective on a situation IS their reality and the only way to ever appeal to multiple perspectives is to first understand they are the challenge.
People who share your thoughts on a situation are never the challenge.
Human nature draws us too like minded people... but to lead your team or your business you must invite different information to the decision making process.
Something that is possible by simply welcoming people into our sphere of influence that enlighten us on perspectives that we would not have considered if the only person we consult...

Is ourselves.

Bigger sphere of influence=better informed decisions=best chances of success.
