Balance to Build

Balance

Once you start performing well...
The recruiters come out.
For those of us in sales, they seem to come in droves and most are shameless.
They throw their best and highest offer at you even if it means interrupting your day.
Frustrating as that may be can you blame them?

Here is the thing...

Their best offer may not be anywhere close to what you really need.

So....
When they come you should their advances as both a compliment and a tell tale sign you have surpassed industry average preformance.

That realization should be empowering.

If you do decide to entertain their pitches as to why you should jump on their bandwagon I encourage you to think before you jump.
The first thing a company tends to offer an agent is a higher commission split.

This is tempting but the reality is...

A higher commission split does not necessarily  mean more money.

Why?

Two rules:

#1. Because everything in life weighs itself     out.
#2. Every firm has to make a profit.

Let's explore both rules so you can use them the next time you are considering making a move.

The higher commission split you are offered usually means you are a one man show.
You have to pay for your own training outside the outdated stuff they spent money on 5 years ago. It should also come as no shock that the training is no longer as effective.

Think logically.

At a 90/10 split, a company is making way less on you than an agent that gives them a 70/30 split.

When you crunch numbers the agent at 70/30 is making more money because it is more cost effective to pay for the support you need to grow out of a split than on your own.

Are there exceptions?
Sure.
Maybe one in one thousand.

We all want to grow.
Especially Those of us in sales.

We are wired to achieve, surpass and increase our capacity to accomplish our goals.

You need support to grow.

Support is the scarcity in sales.

Go with the company who wants to see you grow and sees you more than a cash machine.

That company gets it.
They get the same it you get.
The it is this...

"If  you help enough other people get what they want then you WILL get what you want." - Zig Ziglar

You need a company who sees all the things you have to be...

A mom
A dad
A mentor
A friend
A spouse
A daughter
A son

Money is motivation for most of us but if you are selling well I do not believe more money off the top is what you need.

Remember what deep down you already know...

You get what you pay for.

If you have a 90% split you are not paying that company enough for them to be able to provide you the real support you need.

At 90% you will have to spend your time and money outsourcing your support.

Even if you have the money to buy support you won't have the time.
If you don't have the time you can't focus on what you are best at...
And what you are best at needs to have the time to get in front of other people or you will never expand and reach your true potential.

It is easier to throw money at you.
A company that throws culture and support at you is much harder to find.

So if someone entices you with the promise of greener grass on their side...just know it will be you paying the water bill.
