There just isn't enough time in a day....

Image
There is enough time in a day. There is a difference between busy and effective. To know the difference requires understanding and honesty. It is easy to trick ourselves into thinking that because we are constantly in motion, we are also being effective in reaching our goals.   This isn't always the case. You can be extremely busy with tasks and not moving towards your goals at all. Sometimes we make ourselves busy because we think by trying really hard at everything, something will pay off. Sometimes we busy ourselves with tasks we find time consuming but easy, to avoid doing what makes us uncomfortable. That is where honesty comes in. If we are busy and nothing is being produced from those actions, it is time for a talk. A self-talk. Is there a fear we are avoiding by filling our schedule with safe work? If not, then is there someone else we can find to do the easy busy work so we can go out and do more effective things for our work? ...

Perspective solutions to Perception problems. (say that five times-- fast!)

Perception is personal. Perception is our thinking and understanding of a situation, and is highly influenced by how a person feels going through the situation. Most people will not share your exact perception of a situation. This is why you need to use perspective to your advantage when your goal is to help someone. Someone who is so stuck on their perception of reality.  Preventing themselves from obtaining their goals. You can not change a persons perception. Not by going after their perception. Instead, put things in perspective for them to see. Go after their perspective. A perspective  is a filter that guides your analysis of something.   Perspective is the only thing that can provide clarity about what a persons real goals are. That is ultimately the only way to help someone shift their perception. By influencing their perspective. Introducing them to a situation they can visualize themselves in. Feel themselves in. Perspective ...

"Just see things from my point of view!"

There are times when all you need to make a situation better is for someone else to change their attitude. "The situation is not that bad, it is just the way they see it." That is your opinion anyway... You want to say: " Just trust me" or "Just see things from my point of view" If what you really want from someone is for their attitude to change... Leave their attitude alone. A person's attitude is the output of their perception of a situation. Trying to change an output by going after only the output is not effective. The input filtering process is what you need them to change. Simply put: the way they think about the situation needs to change. Inputs eventually shape a person's perception after they internalize the information and decide how it all makes them feel .   Input --> thinking-->perception-->opinion=attitude/feeling. So leave their attitude alone. Think of it like handing a person a pair of glas...

The secret to breaking bad.... habits

Image
Add caption We run on autopilot for most of the tasks we do during the day. A habit is shaped based on how we internalize external stimuli. If we encounter the same stimuli frequently we tend to handle it similarly for each encounter. Eventually, our brain simply recognizes a trigger—and sends a simple message to our body to express something. A reaction. You can compare it to how text messages work on your phone. After you respond the same way to an incoming text the phone is able to auto fill and guess how you are most likely going to respond. Scary….but true. Just like your phone, habits are learned over time. Once learned and set, they require hardly any of our higher brain functions to maintain them. They are the reflexes of the brain. It takes thinking to change habits. Self-awareness thinking. If you know that you need to break a bad habit for your own good. You have to turn off the autopilot. While autopilot is off, you have to replace...

The value in the idea of a thing...

Sometimes you can't do much to change the asking price of something you are selling.   What you do have control over is people's perception of the value they are getting for the price of something. That sometimes requires knowing what your customer wants because you listened. It also can mean knowing what they might want before they do because you got to know them as an individual. You made an attempt to understand them. Now you can think that them. You will need that when value is what you have to sell to make the sale.

Self-Talk

Have you ever noticed that the last person you extend your forgiveness to is sometimes yourself? When someone hurts you, you need to hear him or her say they are sorry. There is good that comes from hearing the communication: “I was wrong”. As humans we forgive others but once we make a mistake, we hold it against ourselves for a long time. It is a long-standing human tradition. Most golden rules advise that we should forgive the people in our lives that have mistreated us. When did that start not including us too? Ourselves. You are a person in your own life after all. It is in our best interest and the interest of those around us to extend forgiveness and positive self-talk. Including us . I have found this works best when you say it out loud. You are the only person you have to spend every moment of your life with. You may as well be friends. I find that the better I am to myself, the better I can be for other people. We promise to be good part...
